This was a particularly cold and windy day. Fortunately, we avoided the rain. Despite the cold, there was again a very good field of 28 starters, so well done all those who braved the weather. This was the first time this year, on the Floriade course and as well as the wind, runners had to contend with the nasty hill. (There will be more Floriade courses to come). Unfortunately, despite requests, there will not be double points for today’s run.
Welcome to new starter Craig Wurz from AG’s.
Thanks to Simon for revising the handicaps. Simon has promised to further tweak the handicaps for next week.
In the above results, Kevin is first eligible: however, as Kevin received the extra prize for finishing closest to 35 minutes last week, he has generously declined a prize this week. This leaves Denis Gray and Geoff Moore as prize winners this week. Denis and Geoff will receive prizes of Runners Shop vouchers or socks next week.
Many thanks also to Brian Wenn and Nick Walshe and the Runners Shop for the prizes of socks and vouchers.
Thanks to Doug for again holding the clock.
This week was the sixth week of a new point score competition, to continue to sometime towards the end of the year. Runners will be able to drop up to four runs. Note that it is necessary to start on your correct time to earn points and not finish before 34 minutes. The above results have not yet been taken into account: however, Tony continues to lead on 205 points, being closely challenged by Bronwyn on 199, John Anderson 177, Simon 173, Mike 164, Yumiko 158 and Denis 154.
Next Customs Joggers Run will be Friday 3 September 2010 at 12:15 pm. We will again use our alternative Floriade course, starting on the bike path near the Archbishop’s House. (This is just across the grass from our usual start). Note that the car park also is not accessible.
The course follows the bike path under Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, past the Ferry Terminal, then turns right through the tunnel and up and over the steep hill, then turn left at the bottom towards the hospital jetty and just before the jetty (do not go past the jetty) veer left on a wide loop, cross the road and follow the bike path back towards the willow trees, turn at the last willow tree, and then back to the start. The course is 5.05 km according to Bronwyn, but has a “slight” hill in the middle. Prizes of Runners Shop vouchers and socks will again be available for the first two eligible finishers on the day. Usual charge of $1 will apply.
