Australia Day Fun Run 2006 ACT

Follow the Green Line from Stage 88 to the lake side path, turn west and travel over Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, then past the Katie Bender Memorial, and take the path which juts into the lake on the western side of Nara Peace Park, where it joins the path near Flynn drive, turn right and take the path back to the bridge, up and over the bridge, then on the lakeside path to the anchors memorial short of the Carillon, take a loop to again join the bike path, and run back to finish at Stage 88.

There were a large number of runners for the "8km event" at 8:00 am, and a good group of participants for the 4km event at 9:00 am. The 4km event was taken out by a group of runners from Bega, with Chris Sainsbury, last year's 4km winner coming in 5th placing.

The winner in the "8km event" was John Callaghan in 28:01, Chris Williams was second in 2*;06, while Joy Terry was first woman in 28:30, followed by Kirra Rankin in 29:36.

Flashduck and Flashdrake, Speedygeoff, Jim W, Rob G, Anita L, Aki, Allrounder, Mike L, Peter H, Elle K, Chris, Dawn, Lorraine, Kim, and a host of others too numerous to mention, were there for the run.

Raphael S, also turned up and walked the 8km event like a "Walk in the Park".

Before closing, I must mention "Schwinn" bicycles, who had a display of their range at the event and also provided an early entrant prize pack, which for the ACT, was won by yours truly.
They also provided some more of their range as lucky barrel draw prizes on the day.

Until Next Time

And the full results can now be viewed on the Medibanl Australia Day Fun Run Website.

Very belatedly though because Sydney with 3 times the Canberra Participation had results posted within a couple of days.
