Terry Levings can now wear his 800 th BBQ Stakes run T-Shirt with pride.

Only the second person to accomplish this milestone, hid P.B. in 1998 is 24:49, if I heard correctly.
Today's result was first Ramsay Jamahl in 50:08, second was Stuart Murphy and third was Paul Smith, son of Dennis Smith of the smithy mile who had the Smithy mile course named after him.

Emily Martin finished in fourth place.

Euston Half Marathon Carnival

Australia’s newest and brightest distance running carnival will be staged in the tiny New South Wales hamlet of Euston later this year.

The 4-event carnival will be backed by the magnificent Euston Club Resort, which is nestled idyllicly alongside the mighty Murray River, about 85km east of Mildura and 130km west of Swan Hill.

The feature event on the program will be a 21.1km half-marathon which will give participants the opportunity to clock personal best times on the fast, flat course through the surrounding grape-growing district.

Support events will be over 10km, 4km, and, a 1.5km Kids’ Trot which will raise funds for local community projects.

The four events will be open to runners and walkers of all abilities.
The running/walking carnival will be held on the weekend of November 23 and 24.

All running/walking events will be raced on the morning of November 24. It will be preceded on the Saturday evening by a fun-filled and informative sports function featuring, among others, 4-time Olympian and Australian marathon great Steve Moneghetti, who will be the Euston half marathon carnival’s ambassador.

The carnival will be organised and promoted by Caribou Publications and Events, organisers of the Great Ocean Road International Marathon festival.

Caribou’s managing director John Craven said the Euston half marathon carnival offered runners and walkers a unique sporting and recreational experience.

“The Euston Club is one of Australia’s best kept secrets,” Craven said.
“Runners and walkers are continually seeking out events with a difference and this one is certainly different. It has all the hallmarks of being a wonderful weekend for families.”

The courses are ready-made for fast times, but they also have an air of peacefulness and tranquillity about them. Cut-off times will be fair and reasonable, and easily achievable.

“Euston could be classed as a remote New South Wales, Murray River-border township, but it has easy road access to substantial cities and locations like Mildura, Swan Hill, Balranald and Ouyen, where there is plenty of accommodation.”

Full details of the Euston half marathon will be released on the carnival’s website on mid June. Online and mail entries will be accepted from mid June.
So, look out for this new website: www.eustonhalfmarathoncarnival.com.au when it comes online....mid June!

BBQ Stakes 12 th June 2013

Today's weather was against a big turnout with only 28 runners.

Continuous rain made for slower times with parts of the course being very slippery. Geoff King was across the line in first place.

A well deserved win.

It has been 143 runs since his last win.

Raymond Chao was second and Terry Dixon third.

Low temperature today may not have helped the runners, 28 hardy souls.

Sri Chinmoy Half-Marathon, 5 Mile or 2 Mile race 10 th June 2013

A record field of 237 runners lined up for either the Sri Chinmoy Half-Marathon, 5 Mile or 2 Mile race around a scenic one-mile loop in Telopea Park this Queens Birthday Holiday, Monday 10 June.
A cool morning greeted helpers and runners alike, and the temperatures never seemed to rise throughout – some runners were seen adding layers of clothing as the run progressed, rather than the other way around!
The loop course allows for all runners in the three races – fast and slow, young and older alike – to run together, building a good sense of camaraderie from beginning to end.
Jodie Barker – one of the most consistent performers on the Canberra running scene for over a decade – won the Women's Half-Marathon this morning with another excellent run of 1:29:45; from Sophy Sirr (1:34:14), Amy Currie (1:38:05) and Kerry Smith (1:39:17).
Robyn McLelland again ran out the winner of the Women 50-59 in 2:02:12; Julie Bell took the Women 60-69 in 2:08:25; and Canberra running legend, Caroline Campbell won the Women 70 and Over category with an inspirational 2:09:57.
Craig Benson ran a consistent race, leading from the start and never being threatened, to win the Half-Marathon for the men in 1:17:19, from Colin Tricker (1:18:26) and Anthony Kennedy (1:21:16).
David Clarke took out the Men 50-59 race in 1:37:47, holding off a faster-finishing Keith Bennett in 1:38:16. Alan Gowen ran a splendid race in the Men 60-69 to win in 1:45:10, not far ahead of Peter Ralston's 1:48:43. The Over 70's Men category was taken out by stalwart Canberra runner, Lachlan Lewis in 3:10:03.
Matthew Zeitlhofer was pushed by Iain Addinell in the middle stages of the men's 5 mile race, but drew away over the final laps to win in 31:27, from Iain's 31:48, with Simeon Hearnshaw completing the podium with 32:11.
In the Men 50-59, Michael Phillips led the way with 33:35, from Stewart Jones (36:14) who only caught and passed Kim Houghton (36:17) in the dying stages of the run. Graham Burke won the Men 60-69 in 42:19.
The women's 5 mile race was led from the front and won by Kym Chisholm with 35:26, from Michelle Burns (36:25) and Kate Aitken Resink (39:18); while Kim Maloney took out the Women 50-59 in 52:25.
The 2 mile race seemed to be over in a flash. Steve Connor even caught the timekeepers by surprise, finishing first in 11:25, about 100 metres ahead of Boys Under 17s winner, Callum Burns in 11:41; then Glen Sturesteps (Male 17 & Over) in 12:19 and Under 13s Boys first place Spencer Burns in 12:33.
Ellie DeRuyter – running the Girls Under 13s category – was too fast for all the older girls and women, streaming home in 13:21, ahead of Jessica Jeffreys who was first Female 17 & Over in 13:27; while Arabella Hamilton took out the Girls Under 17s in 18:10.
Despite the record field and considerable pressure on the timekeepers who record every mile split time for each runner in all the distances – that's 128 laps in the 2 mile race; 405 laps in the 5 mile and 1,196 laps in the Half-Marathon for a total of 1,729 laps to be recorded – all the results were collated in the end, and the last of the pancake mix consumed by the final runner across the line.

BBQ Stakes 5th June 2013

Some interesting statistics from this week's run. The first 25 finishers all ran under 50:00. There were 15 personal bests and 12 recent personal bests. That would have to be a record. BTW on a recount, we actually had 70 finishers. Roxie was inadvertently omitted from the finisher's sheet and it would appear that she also had a PB.

The above from The BBQ Stakes facebook page.

Brian Crowe was absent from this week's run, so recording was done by others such as John Busteed.

Terry Levings is closing in on his 1000 th run.  Is he aiming for a win on the day ? Come and find out.

It was the 100 th run for Leanne Wilkes, who now also is a regular at Customs
 Joggers on Fridays.

The team from Health took out the monthly teams event.

The winner today was Phil Toomey, 10th placed actual, who has a P.B. of 33:39 from as far back as 2004.  He has 122 Runs and 4 wins.  Gary Bowen was second placed and third place was Alcina Dias.

Heather Powrie has been in Perth, for the birth of her grandchild, and ran as much as she could, while there.
