BBQ Stakes 24 February 2010

A good number of runners turned up today on the occasion of the 200th run by Ian Hore.

He finished mid field today for his 700th run, his PB is 23:52 which he ran in 1992.

Today was a win by Joe Arouk finishing over the line in 39:51, with his PB time at 25:39.

Not sure whether that was his net time today. Second today was Eddy Adams, with 3rd being Gary Bowen.

Caroline Campbell made her debut run in the BBQ Stakes today, welcome Caroline. Carolyne Kramar, still in recovery mode after her recent operation helped record the finishers' names and placings. She rode her scooter today (Deni).

Daniel Buckley was given his 200th run T-Shirt today even though he earned it a few weeks previously.

The T-Shirts are now sourced from Honduras, and Ian is the first to be awarded his from this source.

Raymond Chao finished ninth today, still well up in the placings in a field of 45 or so.

The Secret Palace

The previous time we tried this retaurant was a Monday, and they were not open, except for a meeting of some friends.

This weekend we tried on Saturday, yes it was open.

Not many customers in this Garema Place "Korean Menu" establishment, so they had a table for us.

Sister In Law (recent birthday) , her daughter (recent birthday), Both of us,

We had a good selection from the menu, they have a choice for a lunch menu or a dinner menu.

Rang our daughter in the afternoon, she was celebrating her birthday, with cheesecake from visitors, and going to an engagement party later in the evening.

Didn't eat much for dinner, since lunch was quite filling.

Had a discussion about Korean restaurants elsewhere, and were told that one in Tassie didn't have Kim-Chi.

Kin-Chi is almost the national dish in Korea, and in the summer, they prepare enough Kim-Chi to last the entire winter.

They store it in earthenware pots, underground, and it lasts them all winter.

BBQ Stakes 17 February 2010

A good turn out of 39 or so today.

Caroline Kramar and Brian Crowe, helped out today with recording.

Bernie Crowe ran today, he is an iconic name in Canberra running and triathlon circles, with wife Yvonne.

Caroline Kramar was not dressed for running, just a few days after a hernia operation, but at least she was well enough to drive her car, and record the finishers.
Today's event was won by Terry Dixon, from Andrew Walker and third placed Raymond Chao. Raymond has a string of top placings this year. Terry Dixon had a time of 40:11 today. He processes the results for each event.

Rumour has it that some of the BBQ Stakes results are on the Internet, although I don't know the URL address. Stay tuned.

Adeian Plunkett has a total of 767 Stakes and John Busteed is snapping at his heels with a ttal of 763 Stakes.

Ian Hore has 698 recorded finishes.

Rivett Shopping Centre

We, me and my wife, took a walk to the Rivett Shopping Centre today, and return.

The rain had finished yesterday morning, and the intention was to go in the afternoon, and then more rain came dawn.

Paid the Paper Account, bought some stamps, only had one left, and paid the telephone account as well. This account had just been delivered in our mail box this morning.

Beats having to pay by letter, with a stamp on the front, and a cheque enclosed. There are so many options for paying bills these days, still including cash.

Rivett shopping centre was very quiet, as usual, with me, the only customer in the newspaper shop. We have been using that newsagent for about 40 years now, and only one change of owner. When we go on holidays, they keep all the papers in the shop, and deliver them when we return from holiday.

Will be at the BBQ Stakes tomorrow, and browsing around Woden shopping centre.

Have to go to the ACT Shopfront to pay for Car Registration, soon due. And to receive the new registration label.

Stromlo Stomp 14 Feb 2010

Flyer was like an express train in the mud and rain but the highlight of the day was Gramps' new outfit. He looked like an All Black with the Gramps Army black vest and black full length Skins tights.

Stromlo Stomp ACT Veterans Mountain Running Championship Mt Stromlo ACTSunday 14 February 2010

World 48 hour ultra distance running champion Martin Fryer relished the torrential rain as he overcame a strong start by orienteer Chris Helliwell to take out today’s ACT Veterans Mountain Running Championship on Mt Stromlo. A week for doctor's Visits

Monday went for a blood test.

Then rang the doctor in the afternoon to find out the result.

They've changed their procedures again.

The switchboard operator gave me the result, and also mentioned that her birthday is the same day as mine. (Date and Month ) So I asked whether we should get together to celebrate.

There's no harm in grabbing such an opportunity, even at my age.

Then today to the doctor again, the wait today was a little over one hour, and then seeing a newer doctor, I think I have seen this one previously.

We had a consulation, and then into the treatment rooms for an ears syringe.

Now I can hear everything my wife says, maybe that is or isn't a good idea, especially if I'm asked to do something onerous.

Maybe if I feign deafness, I may find myself at the doctor's for treatment anyway.

Broulee Runners

Mike Kennedy mentioned this at one of the BBQ Stakes events some three or so years ago.

One of the ladies was going to holiday near Broulee, and wanted details of the run/event.

I have tried to send him e-mail messages to get more information from him, also asked him for details when I have seen him in Canberra, and I have just noticed this information from Speedy Geoff's Blog Site.

Broulee Runners
